Specialty Research Areas:
- Heavy-Vehicle Safety Technology
- Heavy-vehicle data buses and instrumentation
- Data acquisition and analysis
- Field test planning and execution
Current or Recent Work:
- Medium Truck Duty Cycle Project (Department of Energy) - Approximately 80 performance indicators are being wirelessly collected to enhance DOE's database of duty-cycle data from real-world Class-6 and -7 vehicles from several vocations.
- Wireless Roadside Inspection Program (Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) - Currently in its second phase, this program involves the wireless inspection of CMVs. ORNL has been tasked with overall technical management and conducting pilot testing to demonstrate the wireless transmission of CMV driver, carrier, and vehicle information to the roadside using commercial mobile radio services technology.
- Large-Scale Duty Cycle Project (Department of Energy) - This project will involve collection of a few key duty cycle signals from thousands of vehicles across a number of vocations.
- Technology in Motion Vehicle (Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) - A demonstration vehicle will showcase CMV enforcement and safety technologies to promote user acceptance in the stakeholder community.
