Numerous CTA Staff Give Presentations at DOE Annual Merit Review Meeting, May 13-17, 2013

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) 2013 Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meetings (AMR) for the Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program and the Vehicle Technologies Program will be held on May 13–17, 2013, in Arlington, Virginia. The staff members attending were David Greene, P.T. Jones, Andreas Malikopoulos, Zhenhong Lin and Stacy Davis.

hopson award photoDuring the AMR, Dr. Janet Hopson (3rd from right) was recognized with one of five 2013 R&D Awards for her work developing and continuously improving the website www.fueleconomy.gov. The website was cited as one of the most widely used and useful U.S. Government websites, as well as for its contribution to federal programs such as Cash for Clunkers.

 

ITS Asset Viewer Unveiled at ITS-America Meeting in Nashville, TN

Gordon photoAt the Annual Intelligent Transportation Association of America (ITS-A) meeting held in Nashville on April 22 -24, the U.S. DOT unveiled the new ITS Asset Viewer that uses visual mapping technology to identify locations of specific ITS deployments by type. Mike Schultz (2nd from left) and Steve Gordon (3rd from left) worked with their U.S. DOT Joint Program Office (JPO) sponsor James Pol to provide demonstrations during the meeting. Resultant press included inclusion in the Secretary of Transportation's Blog as well as the Research and Innovative Technology Administration newsletter.

"My PHEV Calculator" webpage was launched on the fueleconomy.gov website in March 2013. This calculator was developed by Zhenhong Lin and has been featured in an article by Technologytell.com website.

 

CMVRTC Technical Director, Gary Capps, gives KTC Tour at Green County Inspection Station

IBIS photoGary Capps provided a tour of the Greene County Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Station to members of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Kentucky Transportation Center. The purpose of their visit was to observe an infrared wheel-end inspection system in operation and to gather feedback from enforcement personnel who have operational experience on this type of equipment. This effort was conducted as a part of ORNL's management of the CMVRTC. The CMVRTC team members are Gary Capps, Oscar Franzese, Mary Beth Lascurain, Sheila Moore, and Adam Siekmann.

 

David Greene, awarded the 2012 Roy W. Crum Distinguished Service Award, January 16, 2013

award photoDavid L. Greene received the 2012 Roy W. Crum Distinguished Service Award on January 16, 2013, during the Chairman's Luncheon at the 92nd Annual Transportation Research Board (TRB) Meeting in Washington, DC. Dr. Greene was honored for his important, wide-ranging contributions to research on transportation energy and related issues that integrate technical knowledge with an understanding of the broader context of policy making and the ways in which markets operate and governments behave. This award is named for former TRB Executive Director Roy Crum, who served from 1928 until his death in 1951. The award recognizes outstanding leadership in transportation research or research administration.

Edition 33 of the Transportation Energy Data Book Released
The Transportation Energy Data Book (TEDB) is a compendium of data on transportation with an emphasis on energy. Designed for use as a desktop reference, the TEDB was first published in 1976 and has continued to Edition 33. The TEDB is produced by Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
